In fact, as stated by Dr. Purna Chandra Jain in his work "Practical Midwifery", Dr. Sarwono Prawirohardjo wrote this book in two months from scratch. Prior to this, Dr. Sarwono Prawirohardjo was a researcher at the gynecology department of Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He then became a researcher at the university's College of Medicine, and later became a lecturer at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in that same university. Dr. Sarwono Prawirohardjo was born on November 29, 1916 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia to a family which has been involved in health care for generations. His father was Dr. Agus Prawirohardjo who was the Director of the Department of Health in Indonesia, and his mother was a midwife. It is clear that Dr. Sarwono Prawirohardjo had a lot of experience with the health care system in his home country since he didn't travel far to become a professor at Gadjah Mada University. He died on February 1, 1995. His last appointment was as Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Soeratinah Hospital, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, where he worked until his death.
